JAMES LAMARCA

James LaMarca is a 21 year-old photographer and fashion designer based outside of Boston and attending Colby College. He is currently a junior studying economics and sociology merging these two academic fields into fashion brand Colline Deux Fleur, with fellow designer Lucy Brumberger. Sustainability is a centerpoint of James’ art. His social media pages demonstrate that high fashion and style are obtainable through sustainable and cost-effective avenues. He is currently working on publishing a poetry book via sustainable means, which doubled as the conceptual inspiration for his label. This book showcases the range of daily emotion and internal struggles of self reflection and internal growth through imagery and academia. James has a distinct style merging multiple fields of conceptual fashion in the relationship of symmetry with asymmetry, as well as of tonal color with poetic imagery. He draws inspiration from all areas of fashion, primarily haute couture and luxury fashion. Starting in 2017, James began to photograph models in hand sewn pieces for his brand 20FIVECENT Productions (now a dead label @gasstationcigarettes on Instagram). However, during his time in college, James has redeveloped his label to incorporate his academia including economics, sociology, and sustainable biosystems and construct his social view in the realm of fashion, via sustainable means. Ultimately, James’ goal is turning his label into the new sustainable model for creative fashion, paving the way for the fashion industry’s transition towards sustainable practices.

LUCY BRUMBERGER

Lucy Brumberger is a 21 year-old photographer, designer, and seamstress from the suburbs of Philadelphia. She is a double major in Government and Studio Art: Photography at Colby College, where she was accepted as a Presidential Scholar. She grew up in a family who brought her to museums, fostered her love for fashion, and encouraged her creative spirit. In her fifth grade yearbook it says: “When I grow up, I want to be a fashion designer.” Lucy began with a love for paper dolls and the clothes she made for them; later, she turned to photography, while always having a soft spot for fashion photography and Richard Avedon in her studies. In Spring 2020, Lucy founded Masks by Lucy, a successful custom cloth face mask business that she alone ran for almost two years. In creating Masks by Lucy, Lucy rediscovered her love for sewing. Though she intently watched (and recently rewatched) every single episode of America’s Next Top Model, she never imagined she would put on her own runway show. The paper dolls have become real models wearing the clothes she and her partner James LaMarca designed and sewed––and she’s thrilled to watch their work come alive. Now, as a matured photographer and a more experienced designer, Lucy has developed a different type of love for fashion and photography. With her new focus on sustainability in art and fashion, she has found the perfect way to combine her academic, creative, and artistic identity.
